At the end of 2019, I declared 2020 my "year of fun" because it was the year I'd turn 40 and I decided to celebrate rather than dread that milestone. I scheduled trips and had tickets for concerts and shows every month leading up to my birthday in October.
In January, we had a girls' day to visit the Gilmore Girls Holiday at WB Studios. The universe immediately balanced out my fun with getting a wisdom tooth out (the largest my dentist had ever seen, thank you very much) and then got the flu. But, the month ended with the birth of my nephew, Jude, so things were back in balance.
In February, my ultimate California dream came true- I got to see a taping of Ellen! Don't come at me with the rumors about her because honestly, even if they’re true, I’m a recovering evangelical and I have no interest in cancel culture if it still hasn’t cancelled Agent Spray Tan.
Then came March, and while I did see David Letterman interview Robert Downey Jr. for his Netflix show, I didn't get to meet Glennon Doyle on her book tour…
or see Hamilton
go on that girls' trip
see The Chicks in concert
or spend my 40th eating all the things and seeing all the shows in NYC.
So yeah. 2020 was not my year of fun, but it was a year with some unexpected goodness, and for that I am very grateful. More on that later.
