I have exactly zero tolerance for the stunts pulled by certain governors last week flying asylum seekers to other states without their knowledge. I am grateful to the people who showed up and welcomed them but I am livid that real human beings are treated as pawns in political schemes.
Is our immigration system a mess? Yes, no argument here.
Has either party done a great job at trying to fix it- Nope. I don’t think so.
Is it ever appropriate to use real live human beings in an experiment to call out the hypocrisy of “the other side”? No. No it is not.
Yet, here we are listening to real news stories that take a page from Harry Potter and use actual human beings in their vile chess match.
It is cruel and gross and Christians who defend this treatment of actual real live humans need to turn off their garbage news source and sit with the words of Jesus in Matthew 25 when he said, “I was hungry and you gave me food to eat. I was thirsty and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger and you welcomed me. I was naked and you gave me clothes to wear. I was sick and you took care of me. I was in prison and you visited me.”
Or these words given to Moses in Leviticus 19:34, “Any immigrant who lives with you must be treated as if they were one of your citizens. You must love them as yourself, because you were immigrants in the land of Egypt; I am the Lord your God.”
Or any of the other times the people of God were given the instruction to care for the immigrant and treat them as family.
People who follow Jesus should be on the front lines of treating ALL humans (not just ones who look, speak, or believe the same as them) with dignity and care. Anything less is not it.
